A Havre de Grace man died Thursday, almost a week after a crash in which he collided with a fellow motorcyclist near Rising Sun.
Walter Hartman Jr., 56, was flown in critical condition to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore July 18 and the other motorcyclist, Norman Oals, also 56, of Colora, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Christiana Hospital in Delaware, Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Michael Holmes said.
Hartman was pronounced dead Thursday, Shock Trauma spokeswoman Cindy Rivers said.
Both men were riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles together on Connelly Road near Ragan Road, headed south toward Route 1, when the accident occurred, Holmes said.
Investigators determined Hartman and Oals both tried to pass another vehicle and come back together again. Hartman, however, lost control of his motorcycle while trying to return to the lane, went up on the shoulder and then crashed into Oals' motorcycle, Holmes said.
The section of the road where they were riding is a no-passing zone, Holmes said.
Investigators are trying to determine if speed was a factor in the crash, Holmes said. Alcohol is not believed to be involved, he said.
