Shop HdG's thrift stores, farmers market or art show this weekend [Havre de Grace]

Time to shop, dear readers,

Since Saturday is National Thriftshop Day. Let's plan a trip to the Lutheran Mission Society store, 531 Legion Drive at Otsego Street, 410-939-0879, or Twice as Nice Shop, 1844 Pulaski Highway, 410-939-0633.

Shop the Saturday Havre de Grace Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to noon to buy fresh produce, flowers and other great offerings. Sponsored by the Havre de Grace Main Street group, the market is at 450 Pennington Ave. near the Havre de Grace Visitor Center and runs through October.

Then, let's shop the 50th Havre de Grace Art Show, today (Friday) 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) in Tydings Park. Hosted by Soroptimist International of Havre de Grace, the art show has lots of works from artists and crafters. Another shopping opportunity is coming: the Havre de Grace Community-wide Yard Sale is Sept. 21 (raindate Sept. 22). Set up in your own home, yard or business. Let us know and we will help advertise you for free. Spaces are available in a central location downtown for $10. Call 410-939-2100 or 410-939-6562 to be added as a participant. Others, mark the calendar to shop that date for bargains, bargains, bargains. So far 1119 and 1107 Oak Tree Drive; 556 Ferdinand Drive; 413 Grandville Court; 403 Azra Court in Bulle Rock and 226 N. Union Ave. are participating.

Aug. 22 is "Be An Angel Day." If you aren't an angel then, you may wish to plan for "Kiss and Make Up Day" Aug. 25.

A free, hot luncheon will be served by volunteers at Grace Place Serving Place, St. John's Episcopal Church, 410-939-2107 on Aug. 20 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to anyone in need who enters.

Drop by the Havre de Grace Visitor Center to purchase your special edition 2013 John O'Neill medallion, commemorating the War of 1812 local hero, to benefit the Havre de Grace Arts Commission. Medallions cost $10; reserve yours at 410-939-2100.

Alla Bradley informed me that Bill Braun will teach line dancing at the American Legion Post 47, 501 St. John St., 410-939-0234, Thursdays, 6 to 10 p.m. Donation of $10 includes instruction, dancing, beer and water.
