Saturday is the big day in Havre de Grace, dear readers,

Flags, banners and bunting throughout Havre de Grace are shouting red, white and blue in expectation of the Havre de Grace Independence Parade at 2 p.m., traversing Union Avenue from Lafayette Square (Legion Square) to Tydings Park. A concert will commence in Tydings Park at 7 p.m. followed by a spectacular fireworks display at dark (about 9:15 p.m.). The Havre de Grace carnival operates in Tydings Park tonight (Friday) 6 to 10:30 p.m., and Saturday, 4 to 10:30 p.m. Contact 410-939-2100 for information.

T-shirts for the independence celebration are available at the Havre de Grace Chamber of Commerce/Visitor Center, 450 Pennington Ave. for $7 while supplies last. War of 1812 T-shirts are also there for $10. Phone 410-939-3303.

First Fridays will be held in downtown Havre de Grace tonight from 5 to 9 p.m. Since July 5 is Workaholics Day, let's take a break this evening and join the crowds at First Fridays. Have a blast!

July anniversaries will be remembered by Bob and Debbie Jobes (July 7), Amanda Shaffer and Gary Wasielewski (July 8) and Diane and Wayne Krauch (July 10). Congratulations all.

More adventurous folks might celebrate July as American Beer Month with a pub crawl to Coakley's, MacGregor's and Tidewater Grille along St. John Street for starters. Cheers!
