CMW takes Perryville

The C. Milton Wright softball squad came back from Cecil County Wednesday with a big Chesapeake (upper) Division victory, topping the host Perryville Panthers, 2-0.

In the circle for all seven-innings of the pitching battle was CMW hurler Morgan Fulton, who allowed just one Perryville hit on her way to a shutout win.

In the bottom of the sixth, two Perryville base runners reached via a walk and a one-out error, but Fulton got out of the jam by coaxing back-to-back groundouts. Through seven innings of work, Fulton struck out six and surrendered two walks.

Both of CMW's runs came in the fourth, with Holli Rutkowski pushing the first across by earning a bases-loaded walk. Later in the inning, pinch runner Kyralee Comeaux sprinted home from third on a wild pitch to give the Mustangs a 2-0 advantage.

"It was a full-on pitchers' duel today," CMW head coach Russell Kovach said. "Lindsey Poore pitched a superb game for Perryville. It was a stellar performance by both hurlers."

The victory put CMW at 6-2 overall and 4-1 in Chesapeake Division contests.
