Warriors roll over CMW

The Havre de Grace Warriors took down a tough softball opponent on Tuesday afternoon, and they did so with authority, beating the host-team C. Milton Wright Mustangs, 11-1.

"Havre de Grace was solid defensively, but absolutely marvelous offensively," CMW head coach Russell Kovach said following the Mustangs 10-run loss.

The Warriors kicked things off in the top of the second with one run, added two more to their tally in the third, then blew the game wide open with a seven-run outburst in the fourth.

"It was the fourth inning that really drove home the message," Kovach said. "Seven runs on six hits, plus two walks places [us] in danger of losing by the Mercy rule."

The Mustangs, trailing 10-0 heading into the home half of the fifth, avoided having the game halted by the 10-run mercy rule when Kyralee Comeaux scored on an RBI single by Jenny Lynch for CMW's lone run.

Havre de Grace added a final run in the top of the seventh.

The Warriors' Riley Arnold went 2-for-4 with a double and a team-best three RBIs. Emily Lewis was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Megan Thompson was 2-for-5 with a home run. Taylor Smith cranked out a solo home run in the victory and worked the Mustang pitching staff for four walks, while Lindsey Fenner went 1-for-5 with a two-RBI single.

Thompson went the distance on the mound, striking out five, allowing one earned run on five hits and issuing two walks.

Husky starter Hailey Horton did not allow a hit in her complete-game effort. Joppatowne's lone run was unearned.
