A duplex on Havre de Grace's Seneca Avenue was damaged in a fire Saturday morning that was caused by combustible materials ignited by the dwelling's furnace, according to fire investigators.
The fire was reported by the owner at 11:19 a.m. in a hallway, and about 50 firefighters from Susquehanna Hose Company of Havre de Grace, the Aberdeen Fire Department and the Level Fire Company spent 30 minutes controlling the fire, according to a notice of investigation from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.
No one was injured in the blaze. The notice of investigation states the fire was caused by "combustibles ignited by a gas furnace."
The one-story home in the 100 block of Seneca suffered $60,000 worth of damage.
Smoke alarms were present, but did not work, according to the notice of investigation.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
