Appropriately, Hoppe wins Bunny Run in Havre de Grace

Kate Hoppe of Bel Air and James Anderson of Annapolis led 640 runners and walkers – many of them wearing rabbit ears -- through Havre de Grace Saturday in the second annual Bunny Run 5K.

Hoppe won a close women's race, finishing at Tydings Park in 21:56. Close behind her were Lindsey Holthaus of Joppa in 21:59 and Suzanne Owens of West Deptford, N.J., in 22:01.

Anderson, too, had close pursuit in the men's race when he reached the finish line in 18:43. Ryan Dunne of Baltimore was second in 18:46 and Joe Martin of Baltimore, third in 18:56.

Others in the men's top 10 were Bryan Cage of Bel Air, 19:00; Rob Baker, Bel Air, 19:16; Michael Kimmel, Port Deposit, 19:38; Tyler Thomas, Elkton, 19:44; Evan Katsu, Forest Hill, 19:46; David Zinnante, Havre de Grace, 20:11; and Jacob McHugh, Churchville, 20:16.

Fourth place among the women went to Kemper Robinson, 10, of Havre de Grace, in 22:47. Others in the top 10 were: Cora Barstow, Columbia, 23:33; Lori Wilson, Belcamp, 23:34; Kim Roberts, Bel Air, 23:41; Paula Smith, Hampstead, 23:51; Claire Heininger, Havre de Grace, 23:55; and Kristen van deBoe, Wilmington, 24:02.

Boston Marathon

David Stevenson and Meghan Hairfield were the fastest among 20 Harford County runners in the Boston Marathon Monday, in which 32,408 starters raced in favorable weather, tight security and unprecedented national attention.

Stevenson passed the halfway mark on pace for a sub-3:00 before finishing in 3:01:13. Three other Harford runners finished close behind him. Adam Bosley ran 3:01:25; Kevin Hennessey, 3:02:53; and Rob Tisch, 3:02:56.

Hairfield reached the halfway mark in 1:32:38 en route to a personal best of 3:09:11. She placed 327th among the women.

Other local runners among the finishers were John Escarsega, 3:06:39; Jeff Damiano, 3:10:24; Erika Stasakova, 3:28:04; Joseph Bryson, 3:27:05; Mike Feinberg, 3:29:10; Joe Richardson, 3:37:41; Ann Collins, 3:44:21; Eileen Giovanazi, 3:46:22; Kelly Paduch, 3:52:48; Ron Roppelt, 4:05:06; Thomas Barger, 4:06:37; Kelly Cannon, 4:22:27; Scott Kothenbeutel, 4:26:59; Ross Brewer, 4:45:41; and Tim Barger, 5:07:26.

Collegiate Track

Elizabeth Tauber of Bel Air finished second in the 3,000 meters at the Bucknell Team Challenge meet in Lewisburg, Pa., Saturday. The Towson University junior ran 10:09.33. Finishing sixth in the same race was North Harford alum Megan Schott in 10:38.66. Evan Campbell (Fallston) ran on Towson's 4x400 relay, which placed second in 3:58.63.

Harford Tech grad Jheniel Kelly of Edgewood ran on the UMES 4x400 relay, which placed second in the Morgan State Legacy meet Saturday in 3:43.78. She also ran the 1,500, finishing in 4:50.93. Also in the Legacy meet, Morgan State's Lenier Tucker (Edgewood) ran 1:57.82 in the 800 and UMBC's Noah Hutton (North Harford), 15:52.21 in the 5,000.
