Darren Thompson and Kevin Hennessey, both of Bel Air, cracked the top-10 of the HAT Run 50K Saturday, crossing the finish line at the Steppingstone Museum in a tie for ninth place.

The two completed the 31-mile trail course side by side in 4 hours, 30 minutes and 17 seconds. It is the first time two Harford runners have finished in the top-10 since 1994.

Jeff Burger of Bel Air finished 11th, one place behind his two training partners. It was not quite a duplicate of the 2013 New York City Marathon finish, in which all three bettered the three-hour mark together. This time, Burger finished 2 minutes behind Thompson and Hennessey.

Two others from Bel Air finished in the top 20: Adam Bosley was 15th in 4:36:41, and Rob Tisch, 16th in 4:37:01. Finishing 32nd in 4:57:05 was David Stevenson of Abingdon.

There were 433 starters and 381 finishers who followed winner Christopher Beck of Baltimore over the course in Susquehanna State Park. Beck, an environmental engineer and endurance bike racer, finished in 4:10:06 with a two-minute lead on runner-up James Blandford of Hamburg, Pa. Adam Lint of Indiana, Pa., placed third in 4:14:44.

Kristen Eddy, winner of the HAT Run in 2011, led the women. The 43-year-old Virginian won by 1 1/2 minutes in 4:45:15. Jacqueline Palmer of Newark, Del., finished second, and Mandy Hribar of Newburyport, Mass., third in 4:52:36.

Top Harford finishers among the women were Lauren Greenberg, 6:24:54; Lisa Gesualdo, 6:30:17; Jackie Shugart, 6:41:24; Kathleen Zielenski, 6:44:07; Chi-Chin Wu, 6:44:36; and Carey Marzicola, 6:54:22.

The BG 5K

Alex Loper and Kelly Machala were the winners in the BG 5K at the Equestrian Center in Bel Air Sunday.

The race, which benefited the Harford Family House and Mason-Dixon Community Services, drew 205 runners. Loper, 26, of Bel Air, ran away from the field, finishing with a 90-second lead in 16:33. Behind him in the top five were Mike Feinberg, 18:03; Ethan Brito, 18:17; Edgar Narciso, 18:30; and Avior Zynda, 19:00.

Machala, 33, of Jarrettsville, won the women's race by about 80 meters in 21:35. Kimmie Wargo was second in 21:54, Ashley Grimmel, third in 23:57; Tarah Wilson, fourth in 24:09; and Nancy Hill, fifth in 24:50.

Hill was first among the over-50 women. Robert Innocenti led the over-50 men in 22:37, finishing 55 seconds ahead of State Sen. Barry Glassman, who was second in the age group.

In races elsewhere

Erin Angelini, 18, of Bel Air, placed third in her age group in the Caesar Rodney Half Marathon in Wilmington Sunday in 1:49:42. Brad Roberts of Bel Air placed 10th among men 60-64 in 1:49:56. Also among the 1,200 finishers were Kim Roberts, 1:58:10; Mike Trott, 2:03:12; and Ken Szymanski, 2:11:08.

Jennifer Perkovich of Joppa finished first in the 40-49 age group in the BRRC White Hall 15K on the NCR Trail Sunday. She ran 1:13:33 for the 9.3-mile course.

In collegiate track

Jheniel Kelly of Edgewood (Harford Tech) placed third in the 800 meters in 2:18.57 at the Navy Women's Invitational in Annapolis Sunday. She also ran on the UMES 4x400 team, which won in an ECAC qualifying time of 3:51.50.

Morgan State freshman Lenier Tucker (Edgewood) ran a middle-distance double of 1:56.46 in the 800 and 4:10.89 in the 1500 in the Wake Forest Invitational Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C. In the same meet, Megan Schott (North Harford) opened her junior season at Mount St. Mary's with an 18:41.62 in the 5,000.

Temple University freshman Jimmia McCluskey (Aberdeen) placed fourth in the long jump at the Tar Heels Carolina Relays Saturday with a mark of 18-10 1/2.

Evan Campbell (Fallston) cleared 5-5 in the high jump to place fourth in the Ram Invitational in Richmond, Va., Saturday. She also ran on Towson University's 4x100 relay team, which placed third in 47.87. Teammate Wilhelmina Austin (Edgewood) took third place in the triple jump at 36-11 1/2 and fourth in the long jump at 17-6 3/4.
