The State Highway Administration is wrapping up a longtime road improvement project on Route 155 in Havre de Grace, while a second project will also launch soon farther west along the road.

The SHA has been working to add a center turn lane between Bayview and Graceview drives, and expects to get the work done within the next couple of weeks, SHA spokesman Charlie Gischlar said Wednesday.

That project, costing $1.1 million, began last summer but has been held up because of weather conditions, he said.

"There's been a lot of rain and the temperatures have [halted] some of the concrete work that we have been doing," he said, noting there was a lot of late frost during the winter.

The work also required slightly widening the turn lanes, as well as some drainage improvements.

The SHA had to put in stormwater management ponds for the drainage work, he said.

Gischlar said center turn lanes should be a major traffic improvement. Graceview is a principal access to Meadowvale Elementary School.

"Center turn lanes are good at improving safety by improving operations," he said.

Aldino Road work

Also on the radar is a short project to "microsurface" and patch up the entire length of Aldino Road (Route 156) between Route 155 and Route 22, Gischlar said.

That project will be launched and finished within the next two weeks, he said.

It will require partial lane closures along the whole road.

"This is a very routine and basic and non-obtrusive project," Gischlar said.
