The Aberdeen Dive Team won its second meet in a row last week, defeating the Five Oaks Dive Team from Catonsville, 53-19, on Thursday.
The victory brought the team's record to 3-2 with one meet to go and it was Aberdeen's most decisive win in the team's five-year history.
Two divers remain undefeated this year. Rocky Ramsland won the 8U age group with a score of 75.15 and Amanda Kretschmer won the 11-12 girls division with another impressive performance of high difficulty dives. Rocky started diving last year with a lot of energy, but he struggled with his control and form. After practicing and competing over the winter at the University of Delaware, however, he learned many new dives and significantly improved his form to make him one of the top 8U boy divers in Maryland. Amanda continues to push the limits of her diving as she executed an excellent back somersault with two twists in securing another victory.
Other first place finishers for Aberdeen included McKenzie Bakke (6U girls), Lindsay Culbertson (8U girls), Ava Darling (9-10 girls), Jeffrey Kretschmer (9-10 boys), Nikki Bayles (11-12 boys) and Matthew McPhee (15-18 boys). McPhee stepped up his game by performing the hardest dive of the night, a forward 2 1/2 somersault in a tuck position.
Aberdeen's big win was a team effort. Other kids who contributed with strong performances were Grace Long (second, 8U girls); Brendan Doty (second, 8U boys); Caris Cianelli (second, 9-10 girls); Katie Airey (fourth, 9-10 girls); Eden Taylor (third, 11-12 girls); Kendall Archer (second, 13-14 girls); Megan Culbertson (third, 13-14 girls); Briann Long (fourth, 13-14 girls); Ciana Campo (second, 15-18 girls); Mea Bristow (fourth, 15-18 girls); and Ben Morris (fourth, 15-18 boys).
Also, Jeffrey Kretschmer and Eden Taylor qualified for the league championships. They join four other divers, Rocky, Amanda, Ciana and Matthew, who will compete July 28 against the best divers in Maryland.
