Calling animal lovers: paint a picture, figurine to benefit Humane Society

The Art Rooms Professional Art Supplies in Havre de Grace is inviting artists of all ages and abilities to join them for an art competition, show and benefit to raise funds for the homeless and neglected animals at the Humane Society of Harford County.

The Arts Rooms is not looking for Harford County's next Picasso, but is looking for artists to shine the spotlight on our furry friends and raise funds for their care while having fun and letting the creative juices flow.

"We run this program annually to raise funds for our local humane society and need to spread word to anyone who would like to help," Liz Howshall, of The Arts Room, wrote in an email.

It's easy to get involved and help homeless animals. First, purchase a hardwood dog or cat figurine from either The Art Rooms or Humane Society of Harford County until March 30. Figurines cost $18, with $2.50 of every sale (plus a matching donation of $2.50 by The Art Rooms) being donated to the humane society. Then, let the fun begin! Decorate, paint and pose your figurine. Any media is accepted; there is no limit to what you can do.

If decorating a dog or cat figurine is not appealing, then paint a favorite animal. For a $10 entry fee, receive a 9-by-12-inch canvas board. Create a painting (any media accepted) of an animal. All entries must be framed and ready to hang.

The Art Rooms is at 116 N. Washington St. in Havre de Grace. The humane society is at 2208 Connolly Road in Fallston.
