A 14-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle Monday evening while crossing Juniata Street in Havre de Grace during a high school athletic event.
Pfc. Jeff Gilpin of the Havre de Grace Police Department said the girl sustained minor injuries after she was hit crossing Juniata Street at the intersection with Pennington Avenue near the Havre de Grace High School athletic fields.
The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. in the midst of the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference boys and girls lacrosse championships being played at the high school's James R. Harris Stadium.
Gilpin noted the driver was traveling below the posted speed limit because of the surrounding foot and vehicle traffic.
"The driver was actually being very cautious, which was good," he said.
Gilpin said the injured girl, who police did not identify, was taken to nearby Harford Memorial Hospital for "cautionary reasons." She was released "without any significant injury," he said later.
He said the driver was not charged nor was the pedestrian.
"We're just glad that everyone is OK," Gilpin said.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
