The 2013 MD JUCO Basketball Tournaments are being held in the brand new APGFCU Arena this week.
For the first time in school history, the Harford Community College women's team (23-2) won the MD JUCO regular season championship and earned the top seed in the tournament, clinching an opening round bye. The Owls will take on the winner of Southern Maryland versus Garrett contest game that was played Tuesday night. Harford's game will be played Thursday at 7 p.m.
Things are crystal clear on the men's side. The Fighting Owls earned the No. 5 seed with a 9-6 MD JUCO mark. Last week, Harford learned that its earlier loss at Montgomery was turned into a forfeit, due to the Raptors use of an illegal player, bringing the Fighting Owls conference record into a three-way tie with Chesapeake and Howard.
Since Harford defeated both teams in the regular season, coach Brian Selby's squad was scheduled to host No. 12 seed Allegany in the APGFCU Arena on Tuesday in the opening round. The Fighting Owls defeated the Trojans by 30 points at home earlier this season. A win will put the Owls in a quarterfinal game set for Friday at 7 p.m.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
