Four girls lacrosse teams to vie for region titles

CMW vs. North Harford and Fallston vs. HdG to decide two champs

Four Harford County girls lacrosse teams played their way Monday into region championship games Monday. Wins by C. Milton Wright and North Harford in 2A-3A North and wins by Fallston and Havre de Grace in 1A-2A South have set up a pair of region title games today (Wednesday), right here in the county.

CMW will host North Harford in a 4 p.m. rematch, while Fallston will host Havre de Grace. Game time is to be announced.

CMW's win, 17-12, came over a tough and visiting Hereford club. The Mustangs (15-1) led 7-6 at the half.

"Hereford came with a great game plan as I expected since they have an excellent coaching staff. Their girls executed well and put themselves in positions to be successful," CMW head coach Brent Ritz said. "Lauren Haggerty really made a difference in the game, turning the momentum by winning 10 draws in the game. We really closed the first half on a positive note causing a few turnovers and finally taking a lead before the half."

Abby Smucker scored five goals to guide the Mustangs and Kaitlan Moynihan scored four. Maggie Gallagher and Katie Burgee had two goals each and single goals were netted by Haley Alexander, Haley Matthai, Brooke Williams and Lauren Haggerty.

Smucker and Moynihan also had two assists apiece. Williams and Haggerty had one each.

CMW played two goalies with each, Katelyn Miller and Alexis Strouse, making two saves.

Hawks rout Mavericks

North Harford's win was a lopsided one in which the Hawks dusted off visiting Eastern Tech, 18-2.

The Hawks (12-2) win was highlighted by Emily Clark's six-goal, two-assist effort. Maddie Dolinar added four goals and two assists, while Katie Clark and Jenn Doering also posted multiple goals with two each.

Cougars best Huskies

Fallston picked up its win at home, knocking off county foe Patterson Mill, 14-10.

Caroline English, Rachel Barile and Kayla Reilly pumped in four goals apiece to pace the Cougars (9-7), who led at the half, 8-5.

Logan Gasior and Emily Scranton each had single goals, while English, Gasior and Katie Donhauser each had assists.

Patterson Mill scoring was led by Gabby Vujanic and EJ Karwatka, with three goals and two assists each. Sam Herman added two goals and one assist and Allie Poust and Amy Bednarek both had single goals.

Mariel Castronova and Megan Wedekind had one assist each for the Huskies (8-9).

Cougars goalie Erika Wright made six saves and Huskies keeper Erin Dent finished with five.

Warriors beat Panthers

Havre de Grace's win came at Perryville, where the Warriors came away with an 8-4 win.

Margaret Stump led the way with two goals and one assist and Haley Dean added two goals.

Rebecca Angelini, Colleen McCormick, Lauren Herrington and Brianna Haffey each had single goals. McCormick added two assists, while Helen Boniface and Katie Thompson had one assist each.

Bobcats eliminated

Bel Air's bid in 3A-4A South came to an end with a 17-7 semifinal loss at top seed Catonsville. No stats were made available for the Bobcats (9-5).

Hawks blank Patriots

In Pylesville Friday, North Harford had an easy time with Patapsco, shutting out the Patriots, 18-0, in Class 2A-3A North play.

North Harford used a complete team effort, including putting 14 players in the scoring column. Emily Clark led the Hawks with two goals and three assists. Shelby Mitchell added two goals and two assists, while Shannon Manberger had two goals and one assist and Jenn Doering added two goals.

Caitlin King, Morgan Knox and Maddie Dolinar each had a goal and assist, while Hawks scoring single goals only were Courtney Blevins, Claudia DiVenti, Sophie Crowther, Julia Schrof, Katie Owens, Maria Auth and Bailey Saneman.

Hawks goalie Michaela Welsh made one save.

Mustangs beat Rams

Also in 2A-3A North, C.Milton Wright advanced with a 17-4 win over visiting Edgewood. The Mustangs led 14-1 at the half.

Maggie Gallagher and Abby Smucker paced the Mustangs, scoring three goals apiece, while Haley Matthai, Alyssa Austen and Lauren Haggerty netted two goals each. The Mustangs also got single goals from Haley Alexander, Brooke Williams, Kaitlan Moynihan, Katie Burgee and Lauren Cavanaugh.

Edgewood (9-5) goals were scored by Caitlin Rankin, Alyssa Rankin, Abigail Olah and Rebecca Nunez.

CMW assists were credited to Williams and Renee Landis (four each), while Alexander, Smucker and Burgee each had one.

CMW played three goalies, who made one save combined, while Edgewood goalie Savannah Kerr had four saves.

Bobcats beat Knights

Bel Air, the county's lone 3A-4A South contender, advanced by thumping visiting North County, 15-1.

The Bobcats had nine players score goals, led by Shannon Williams and Tori Gryglewski, who scored three goals each.

Katie Clelland added two goals and three assists and Rebekah Riley had two goals one assist. Cassidy Jones added a goal and five assists and Morgan Hollenback had one goal and one assist.

Anna Wehland, Sarah Dempsey and Dani Wilson also had goals and Brianna Kelly dished out an assist.

The Bobcats played two goalies with Taylor Gillis making one save and Lucy Loughlin making two.

Huskies beat Cobras

Patterson Mill led three county teams in 1A-2A South play, knocking off host Harford Tech, 14-10. The game was tied 3-3 at the half.

Patterson Mill scoring was guided by Gabby Vujanic's three goals and three assists, while Sam Herman had two goals and two assists. Sarah Alders added two goals and one assist, while Brittie Andrews, Mariel Castronova and EJ Karwatka also scored two goals.

Allie Poust closed out the scoring with a goal and assist.

Tech (9-3) scoring was headed by Becca Williams' four goals. Megan Campbell added three goals, while single goals were scored by Amanda Weir, Gabby Spalt and Courtney Poole. Poole also had one assist.

Patterson Mill goalie Erin Dent made 11 saves, while Tech goalie Bryana Weston-Wyatt had 13 saves.

Cougars crush Tigers

Fallston (8-7) had no trouble reaching Monday's 1A-2A South semifinals, beating visiting Rising Sun, 23-1. The Cougars led 13-1 at the half.

Caroline English, Rachel Barile, Kayla Reilly, Lindsay Summers and Katie Donhauser each scored three goals for Fallston, while Megan Shock and Emily Scranton each found the nets twice. Logan Gasior, Megan Reilly, Kellie McCreesh and Karlie Abbott also scored. Barile also had three assists, while English, Kayla Reilly, Summers and Scranton had two each. Gasior and Shock had one assist each.

Fallston goalie Erika Wright finished with four saves.

Warriors beat Elks

Havre de Grace was also winner in 1A-2A South, topping visiting Elkton, 19-8. Havre de Grace led 10-3 at the half.

Haley Dean had the hot hand for the Warriors, scoring seven times and assisting on two others. Lauren Herrington added three goals and a pair of assists and Carly Thompson had three goals and one assist.

Taylor Johnson scored twice, while single goals were scored by Colleen McCormick (two assists), Margaret Stump, Kara Neiberlein and Brianna Haffey. Katie Thompson added two assists.

In the goal, Abbie Blessing made two saves, before giving way to Lauren Butler, who made three.

Eagles knocked out

Having their region playoff game halted Wednesday by thunder, the Aberdeen Eagles made the trip back to Baltimore County Thursday for a first round Class 2A-3A North game at Franklin.

The Eagles fell behind big in the first half, 11-1, en route to a season-ending loss, 15-4. The Eagles finish the season at 4-9.

Aberdeen's scoring was handled by four players with goals. Kayla Gardner's goal was the 30th of the season for the senior captain, while Megan Lutrey, April Privett and Jozlynn Kelly also scored. Fellow senior captain Morgan Tildon did not score, but led the Eagles this year with 31 goals.

Aberdeen goalie Stacey Wardenfelt made 18 saves.
