The 14th annual Cal Ripken World Series will be played at the Ripken Experience complex in Aberdeen Aug. 9 to 18.
"Bringing the Cal Ripken World Series back to Aberdeen, year after year, continues to cement Aberdeen as one of the top baseball destinations in the country," MLB Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. said. "This event showcases the next generation of baseball with the best 12U baseball players on the planet."
The CRWS is where the world comes to play, the Ripken Way, and is the culminating tournament of the Babe Ruth League's 12U Cal Ripken Division. The World Series unites the 10 best teams from across the United States, with six international teams from Australia, Canada, Dominican Republic, Japan, Mexico and the Republic of Korea.
The World Series begins on Friday, Aug. 9 at 5 p.m. with the opening ceremony and the tournament's first game at 8 p.m. Harford County champion, the Hickory Hornets, will face the yet known champ from the Mid-Atlantic region on Cal Sr.'s Yard, followed by a post-game fireworks show. All tournament games are free. Tickets are available online at WorldSeries.RipkenBaseball.com.
Games will be played on the innovative fields at The Ripken Experience complex, including the one-of-a-kind Cal Sr.'s Yard, a two-thirds replica of Camden Yards. Pool play takes place from Aug. 10 to 14 with games played from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The CRWS All-Star Game takes place on Thursday, Aug. 15 at 8 p.m.
On Friday, Aug. 16 will see the field narrowed down to eight teams, which will face off in the single-elimination round. The championship games on Aug. 17 and 18 will be televised live on CBS Sports Network and include commentary by Cal and Bill Ripken. Coverage begins with the U.S. Championship on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 5 p.m., to be followed by the International Championship at 7:30 p.m. The World Championship begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18.
This year, community activities at the CRWS will include a parade in downtown Aberdeen on Saturday, Aug. 10. The carnival will be onsite at the Ripken Experience complex for a week-long appearance beginning Monday, Aug. 12 with 22 family-friendly rides and games, including the Giant Slide, Drop Tower, Merry Go Round, Flying Elephants, Dizzy Dragons and Musical Chairs. On Sunday, Aug. 18, Karla Davis from NBC's "The Voice" will perform at Ripken Way (along the Marriott wall/outfield of Cal Sr.'s Yard) immediately following the Championship Game.
Additionally, the Cal Ripken World Series will once again feature "The Wearhouse," a merchandise store at the Courtyard by Marriot. Fans will be able to purchase official CRWS merchandise, including team replica T-shirts.
