Woman hit by van on Route 40 in Aberdeen

A woman was struck by a van on Tuesday morning while crossing Route 40 in Aberdeen, according to city police.

Susan Yates, 57, of the 200 block of Mayberry in Aberdeen, was hit while crossing the lanes of Pulaski Highway for eastbound traffic at West Bel Air Avenue, when she was hit by a 2006 Ford van, Lt. Fred Budnick, spokesperson for the Aberdeen Police Department, said in a news release.

According to Budnick, around 11:15 a.m. Yates was crossing the highway at the crosswalk when she was hit by the van, driven by Bruce Lipscomb, 88, of Aberdeen.

Paramedics from the Aberdeen Fire Department treated Yates on the scene and she was later transported to Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Budnick said.

The victim is listed in "serious condition," Budnick said.

Traffic backed up for about 45 minutes on Route 40 following the accident, said Jennifer Chenoworth-Price, spokesperson for the Harford County Fire and EMS Association.

The driver was not injured, but has been charged with failing to stop for a pedestrian at the crosswalk, Budnick said.
