Two children were taken to hospitals after a crash in front of Walmart in Aberdeen on Sunday evening, city police said.

The children were not seriously hurt, Lt. Fred Budnick spokesman for the Aberdeen Police Department, said Monday.

The crash happened at about 7 p.m. after a car driving east on Route 40 failed to stop at a red light and struck a vehicle making a left turn into Walmart, Budnick said.

Walmart is near the intersection with Route 715.

An 8-year-old child in the vehicle making a left turn was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. A 2-year-old child from the other car was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Budnick said.

"It didn't appear that the injuries were too substantial," Budnick said.

Further details on the accident were not available.
