Elizabeth Grace Chesney, Baltimore County Public Schools executive director of research, accountability and assessment, was name Howard County schools chief accountability officer during Thursday night's school board meeting.

The school board unanimously approved Chesney, who was recommended for the appointment by new Howard Superintendent Renee Foose, the former deputy superintendent for Baltimore County public schools. Both were hired by the Baltimore County after serving in the Montgomery County School System.

Foose was named Baltimore County deputy superintendent in April of last year after serving as associate superintendent in Montgomery County. Chesney joined the Baltimore County staff last October after serving in the Montgomery County Public School's office of shared responsibility.

"She comes to us with a wealth of information and a very strong background, a firm understanding of what we need to do in the Howard County Public School System as we move forward," Foose told the board prior to its approval. The chief accountability officer position was established as part of Foose's entry plan and realignment structure for the school system.
