Blood clot causes Frostburg student's death

A Frostburg State University graduate student died Tuesday after a medical condition caused her to fall down a flight of stairs in a campus building.

She-Ra White, 23, of Wichita Falls, Texas, complained about feeling light-headed and struggling to breathe after she was discovered by another student at the bottom of the steps at the school's Guild Center classroom building, said Liz Medcalf, a Frostburg spokeswoman. White later died after she was taken to a local hospital.

An autopsy report from the state medical examiner released Wednesday found that White's death was caused by an acute pulmonary thromboembolism, where a blood clot moved from elsewhere in her body to her lung. The clot movement resulted in her fall.

White was studying counseling psychology at Frostburg. She started the program in fall 2012.
