Police seek man in attack of 98-year-old woman

A 98-year-old woman was attacked at her home Saturday by a man claiming to be selling home improvement services, Baltimore County police said.

Police on Tuesday said they are looking for 50-year-old Paul Earnest Howard Jr., of no fixed address, and have an arrest warrant for him in connection with the assault.

The county fire department got a medical alert call at 7:46 p.m. Saturday to the home in the 200 block of Gaywood Road, where they found the victim lying on the floor inside. Her condition was not immediately available Monday.

The woman told police the man knocked on her back door sometime between noon and 1 p.m. Saturday, but she told him the repairs she needed had already been made. He returned several hours later, and when she let him inside and asked him when he would be leaving, he threw her to the ground, she said.

Howard has been charged in the past. Most recently, he was charged with burglary and related counts in October, but the charges were dropped, according to online court records. His public defender in that case declined to comment Tuesday afternoon.

He received a three-year sentence for burglary in August 2006.

Anyone with information on Howard's whereabouts should call Baltimore County police at 410-307-2020.
