Frederick boy, 17, arrested in shooting of juvenile acquaintance

A 17-year-old Frederick boy has been arrested and charged with first-degree assault and multiple gun charges in the shooting of another boy Wednesday, according to Frederick police.

Dylan Grey, of the 400 block of Hillcrest Drive, was charged as an adult in the shooting and was being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, police said.

Police responded to Grey's street for reports of shots fired about 4:38 p.m. and found the unidentified juvenile with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said.

Officers performed first aid until emergency personnel arrived, police said. The boy was then transferred to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was listed in serious but stable condition late Wednesday, police said.

An investigation showed an altercation had started between the victim and Grey, who know each other, when Grey allegedly produced a handgun and threatened the victim before shooting him, police said.

Grey faces charges of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and two gun charges, police said.

The shooting remains under investigation. Those with information are asked to call 301-600-1265.
