Man charged in shooting of man, woman in Baltimore after dispute

Baltimore police charged a 28-year-old man in the shotgun shooting of a man and woman on Sunday in the Brooklyn neighborhood.

Joel Hopkins, whose address is unknown, is facing two counts of attempted murder charges along with assault and weapons charges, said police Sgt. Anthony Smith. Police said they were called to the 4100 block of Hyden Court at 11:23 a.m. Sunday, where they found a 26-year-old man lying on a house floor with a shotgun wound to his upper torso. He was taken to a hospital for surgery and his condition was not known.

Another police call sent officers to an adjacent home where they found a 49-year-old woman with a graze wound. She was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police received a vehicle description in the shootings and found the car unoccupied on the 3500 block of Third St. in the same neighborhood. They found Hopkins walking away and arrested him without incident. Police say he confessed to the shootings, which stemmed from an argument he had with the male victim on Saturday that carried into Sunday, Smith said.

Police said both victims suffered non-life threatening injuries.
