Man shot and killed in Mondawmin, police said

A 31-year-old man was shot and killed in the 1900 block of Clifton Ave.

A 31-year-old man was shot and killed Thursday night in the Mondawmin neighborhood of West Baltimore, police said.

Officers were called about 8 p.m. to the 1900 block of Clifton Ave. and found the man there critically wounded, police said. The unidentified victim died later at a hospital.

The man was shot across from the New Shiloh Baptist Church, while down the street Michael Vaughn washing dishes and his 9-year-old grandson was watching YouTube.

When gunshots sounded outside his West Baltimore rowhouse, Vaughn said he didn't flinch.

"I'm numb to it," he said.

"My wife comes in. She asks me, 'Did you hear the gunshot?' No. I don't even hear it anymore," Vaughn said.

Thursday night, police had not yet named the victim, another young man shot dead on a bloody Baltimore block in Mondawmin. There have been at least 3 other fatal shootings nearby in the last six months.

"Man you just don't know. It's nothing but death around here," said Vaughn, a retired electrician.

He's lived about a decade in this rowhouse with his wife Roxanne. Each morning, he studies the shadows when warming his car.

Vaughn looked out his window, then he lowered the blinds and went to join his wife in the living room.

"It's just too much killing," she said.
