Scam targets elderly in Baltimore

Baltimore police on Friday warned of a scam targeting elderly folks in the city.

A woman calls the victims claiming to be a tax official, and tells them they have outstanding Baltimore bills, authorities said. She adds that a city official, sometimes a police officer or sheriff, will come to the person's home to collect the overdue payments.

A white male, shown in a police composite sketch, then shows up and robs the victims, police said. Some of those targeted have been assaulted.

Anyone with information should contact the Special Investigation Section Check and Fraud Unit at 410-396-2400, police said.
