Anne Arundel police officer charged with biting man's testicles

Anne Arundel Co. officer bites man in testicles after Baltimore bar fight, police said.

An Anne Arundel County police officer is charged with assault after Baltimore police said he bit another man's testicles during a fight outside a Canton bar on Cinco de Mayo.

Michael Flaig, 31, a 10-year veteran officer with the Anne Arundel County police department was charged Tuesday night after he got into a fight with a man outside Looney's Pub, Baltimore police wrote in charging documents.

City police said the incident began when Flaig and the victim got into a fight outside in the 2900 block of O'Donnell Street. The victim said Flaig was groping his female roommate, and told him to stop, but Flaig refused. A copy of the report provided by Baltimore police redacted the victim's name.

As the victim started to walk home, north in the 700 block of S. Linwood Street, police said Flaig ran up from behind and attempted to punch him in the face, but the man ducked. Flaig them pulled him to the ground. During the fight, the victim straddled over Flaig, keeping him from getting away when Flaig bit his testicles, police said.

Flaig is assigned to Northern District patrol, and will be suspended and placed on administrative duties, Anne Arundel County police spokesman T.J. Smith said.

"These charges are disturbing and we have an obligation as police officers to conduct ourselves in a professional manner on and off-duty," Anne Arundel County Chief of Police Timothy J. Altomare said in a statement. He said Anne Arundel County police are cooperating with the city's investigation.

City police officers wrote that Flaig had blood stains on his blue and white Polo shirt. While being interviewed by police, he identified himself as an Anne Arundel County police officer.

Flaig did not have an attorney listed in online court records.
