Police: Man shot, killed during attempted robbery in North Baltimore

Baltimore Police are investigating after a man was fatally shot in an attempted robbery Monday morning in North Baltimore, the department said.

At about 4:20 a.m., police found a 66-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest in the 5100 block of York Road. Police said the man and a friend were in the block when they were approached by two men.

One of the men, armed with a gun, demanded money from the victims. When they refused, a struggle ensued and the victim was shot in the chest, police said.

Both suspects fled on foot, heading west on Winston Avenue.

The victim, who has not been identified by police, later died.

Police Monday also identified two recent homicide victims: Brian Deshields, 47, of the 3500 block of Liberty Heights Avenue was shot and killed in the 1800 block of Saint Paul Street on Friday; Dorian Lumpkins, 20, of the 100 block of South Augusta Avenue, was shot and killed Sunday in the 300 block of Collins Avenue.
