Man killed near Pimlico Race Course in Northwest Baltimore

A man was shot to death near Pimlico Race Course in Northwest Baltimore early Thursday morning, police said.

Officers were called at 1:45 a.m. to the 5000 block of Palmer Avenue in Central Park Heights, where they found the victim with gunshot wounds to the upper body, police said.

The man was taken to a hospital, where medics pronounced him dead, police said. Authorities did not release the victim's name Thursday, nor did they release any information regarding a suspect or motive in the case.

The Northwestern District has had 16 homicides this year, including the Jan. 26 fatal shooting of 22-year-old Raheem Payne in the 5000 block of Queensberry Avenue, just blocks from Thursday's killing.
