Baltimore police released a photo on Wednesday of a person of interest in a brutal beating, robbery and carjacking in Canton last week.
The victim, Jonathan Fogg, 30, is recovering from skull fractures, gashes on his head, missing and damaged teeth and broken fingers after being hit in the head with a brick while being robbed near his car in the 3400 block of Foster Ave. on Jan. 14. Fogg is a Baltimore Sun editor.
Fogg was approached on his way home from work by a man on a bicycle, who knocked him down, hit him with a brick and stole his bag and car after he offered him his wallet. Police are still looking for his silver 2009 Toyota Prius, and Fogg said he is hopeful that the photo will help identify and catch the man who mugged him.
"The person's still out there," Fogg said in an interview Wednesday. "That's my primary goal. I don't want anybody else to have this happen to them."
Family members have estimated the community has raised around $20,000 on a personal website to supplement his insurance. On Feb. 5, a number of Canton restaurants will donate a portion of their proceeds to assist with his recovery, dubbing the night "Count on Canton."
"The outpouring of support has been tremendous," Fogg said. "The community has come together to say, 'This is not something that should be happening in Canton.'"
