A Prince George's County police officer shot and killed an armed man early Saturday in Capitol Heights, authorities said.
Police were called about 4 a.m. to Marlboro Pike and Lee Jay Drive after witnesses reported hearing gunshots, police said. Two officers nearby spotted a man fleeing the area on foot, grabbing his side.
When the officers confronted the suspect, he reached for a weapon in his waistband, and one of the officers fired his weapon multiple times, police said.
The man — who was not identified — was pronounced dead at Prince's George's County Hospital Center, police said. The officers were not hurt.
Police said they later recovered the suspect's gun at the scene.
The officer who shot the suspect is on routine administrative leave while the shooting investigated, police said. The officers involved in shooting were not identified.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
