Montgomery County police have arrested a Gaithersburg man who they say has sexually assaulted at least 10 college-age men in the last decade.

Joey Poindexter, 38, of Plum Creek Drive, was arrested Saturday, after a man came forward with an accusation of assault earlier this month. The man said he met Poindexter during a night of drinking at a beer pong tournament at Looney's bar in College Park on Oct. 3 and later accompanied him back to Poindexter's home, where he was sexually assaulted.

When detectives investigated Poindexter, they found several photos of college-age men "who appear to be in various states of consciousness and in compromising positions," a police news release said. The assaults appear to have happened when victims were unconcious or drunk, the release said. All of the victims who have come forward didn't know what was happening when the assaults occurred.

Two additional victims have contacted police, and at least one more is expected to come forward soon, the release said. Six of the men in the photos are still unidentified.

Poindexter frequents beer pong tournaments, as well as other activities popular among young men, like extreme sporting events, where he has met his victims, according to the release. He has recently attended several of these events in the Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Atlantic City, New Jersey, Las Vegas, Dallas, Virginia Beach and Salt Lake City, police said; police agencies in these areas are assisting Montgomery County detectives in the investigation.

Poindexter could not be reached for comment. The Washington Post reported that he was represented at his bond review by an unspecified public defender.

Police ask anyone who has been victimized by Joey Poindexter or has information about a related sexual assault to contact the Montgomery County Police – Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.
