With blood still streaked on the doorway of a Southwest Baltimore home where a man was shot earlier in the morning, a woman who rented a room there nonchalantly recalled hearing the four shots.
"After the first shot, I screamed and dropped to my knees and ran upstairs," said the woman, who identified herself as Cheryl Nancy, 25. Two of her four children stood on the front stoop, near a pack of cigarettes and a flask-sized bottle of vodka.
It's not the first such incident of violence she's seen. "I was in a car that was shot up once," she offers.
The shooting was reported at around 2 a.m., in the 300 block of S. Payson St. in Carrollton Ridge. Police have not identified the victim, but said the shooting was the result of an argument between the victim and suspect. The woman said the front door was open at the time.
He was pronounced dead at an area hospital, and has not yet been identified by police.
Homicide detectives asked anyone with information to call 410-396-2100.
