The death of a Baltimore man whose hand was found separate from the rest of his remains in Reisterstown last week was determined a suicide, Baltimore County police said.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined Darnell William Butler, 24, took his own life. Police said a handgun was recovered on scene, and that cause of death is a gunshot wound.
Cpl. Cathy Batton, a police spokeswoman, said it is unclear how the "skeletonized" hand was became separated from the remains and that police do not find any signs of foul play.
Butler's remains were found in the area of Hanover Pike and Butler Road in Reisterstown on Nov. 17, and earlier, his hand was found by a landscaper in the 300 block of Hedge Pocket Way, about half a mile away.
Butler, of the 3800 block of Ferndale Ave., had been reported missing to city police on Sept.17.
