City police were investigating an afternoon fatal shooting in West Baltimore's Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood.
The shooting was reported by the department at about 4:45 p.m., and police said an unidentified man had died from his injuries. Details were not immediately available.
The Western District has seen seven killings in the past month and 39 homicides for the year, easily the most of any of the city's nine police districts.
Homicides in the police department's Western District had been slashed significantly in recent years; after recording 54 murders in 2003 and 41 as recently as 2007, the number of murders dropped to 24 in 2011.
