Baltimore police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in the McElderry Park neighborhood overnight Friday.
The shooting occurred in the 600 block of N. Lakewood Avenue. Police were called to the area around 3 a.m. and found the 30-year-old man shot in the back. He died at Johns Hopkins Hospital about a half-hour later. Police provided no information about a possible suspect or motive in the killing.
Efforts have been underway to improve safety in the historically violent neighborhood, including the Safe Streets program that pays ex-convicts and gang members to help settle disputes with non-violent solutions.
In February, a man was shot seven times as he sat on the steps of a house at the 500 block of N. Montford Avenue in the East Baltimore neighborhood.
