•Put up "Police Training In Progress" signs on access roads.

•Have a "safety vehicle" on hand with a mobile phone.

•Assign at least two safety officers to conduct separate weapons and ammunitions checks of all participants.

•Require all participants to report any unsafe act witnessed during training.

•Keep fingers off triggers unless preparing to fire.

•Prohibit any officers arriving late, as well as those who leave and return, from participating in training exercises.

•Ammunition inspections after breaks.

•Check all vehicles used in training for live ammunition.

•Tight supervision of loading and firing guns if bullets are used.
