Two fatally shot in Baltimore

Baltimore homicide detectives on Wednesday were investigating two fatal shootings that occurred the previous night.

Police said Robert Lee Woods, 34, was shot in the unit block of W. 20th St. in the Charles North neighborhood in the Station North Arts district around 2:12 a.m. He had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at a hospital after 3 a.m.

Woods' last known address was in the Franklin Square neighborhood, on Bruce Street. Police did not provide a possible motive or suspect description.

Earlier, just before midnight, police said officers were called to the 2300 block of W. Lexington St. for a report of shots fired and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his head and neck in the 200 block of N. Bentalou St., in the Penrose/Fayette Street Outreach community.

The victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m. at a hospital. Like the West 20th Street case, police did not provide a possible motive or suspect description.

Wednesday morning, there were no signs of the shooting scene the night before as neighbors mowed their laws, workers worked on home rehab projects and a group repainted the nearby Mary Winterling Elementary School.

The fatal shootings brought the number of people shot in Baltimore in August to 16, which is the number of people killed last August. For the year, 134 people have been killed, compared with 146 at the same time last year.

Anyone with information was asked to call homicide detectives at 410-396-2100.
