For the first time in 2014, homicides in Baltimore have fallen below the totals from the year before.
As of Tuesday morning, city police said they had logged 41 homicides for this year, compared to 42 at the same date in 2013. Fourteen people were killed or were added to the homicide totals in February and to this point in March, a dramatic slowdown after murders spiked to 27 for the month of January.
Police in northwest Baltimore were also investigating a non-fatal shooting from late Monday night. A man was found shortly before midnight in the 3900 block of Parkview Avenue in the Grove Park neighborhood with a gunshot wound to the right side of his head. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and police announced no suspects or motive. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call 410-396-2466.
