Police on Monday called a 32-year-old mother a suspect in the death of her 2-year-old son, who was found dead a day earlier at their home in Southeast Baltimore.
The woman, who remains at an area hospital in critical but stable condition Tuesday, had been a person of interest. But investigators now think she killed her son, Paris Russell, and they plan to charge her with first- and second-degree murder and various child abuse and neglect charges, Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.
Police are waiting for their lawyers to decide when she can be charged once she's cleared medically, he said.
"Charges are definitely expected," Guglielmi said.
Responding to the family's home on the 1400 block of Broening Highway, police found the boy dead from what they would only describe as a "severe laceration." They also found his mother with her throat cut.
Police believe the domestic incident is isolated. Investigators do not have no motive in the case and are not releasing the mother's name.
