An 18-year-old student at Frederick Douglass High School was shot to death Tuesday night near a West Baltimore housing project, one of two shootings reported within a few minutes.
Police said Darnell Moore was found shot multiple times at about 11:10 p.m. in the block he lived in — the 500 block of W. Preston St. near McCulloh Homes and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Elementary School. He was pronounced dead before midnight, police said.
School officials confirmed Moore attended Douglass High, and his classmates were mourning on social media.
A motive was not released, and police said they were searching for suspects. Anyone with information was asked to call homicide detectives at 410-396-2100.
About 15 minutes after Moore was shot, police in the Southern District were flagged down by a citizen who pointed them to a man lying in the street in the 600 block of Cherry Hill Road. He had been shot multiple times and as of Wednesday morning was listed in critical condition at an area hospital.
Southern District detectives were handling the case, and asked the public to call in tips at 410-396-2499.
Police also said they had made an arrest in the Oct. 22 killing in the 800 block of Abbott Court in East Baltimore of Gwendolyn Johnson, 24. Brittany Powers, 23, of the 1400 block of Ashland Ave., was arrested Tuesday by the agency's Warrant Apprehension Task Force in the 5900 block of Cross Country Blvd., police said.
Powers is charged with first-degree murder, assault, and related charges, police said.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
