A road rage chase that ended in Pennsylvania with a fatal shooting this month began in Maryland, authorities said.
Witnesses on Jan. 4 reported seeing a suspect pursue the victim, 28-year-old Timothy Davison of Poland, Maine, along Interstate 81 between the Interstate 70 exit in Maryland and Pennsylvania Route 19, Pennsylvania State police said.
During the chase, Davison called police twice and informed them that he was being shot at.
The victim's vehicle crossed a median and got stuck in snow and soft ground in Antrim Township in Franklin County at around 2 a.m. Police said the shooter pulled up next to Davison, walked to the driver's side of his vehicle and began firing multiple gunshots.
The assailant then drove back south toward Maryland, according to police.
Detectives believe the suspect was driving a dark-colored Ford Ranger XLT pick-up truck.
Pennsylvania police, Maryland State Police and the FBI are still trying to determine the suspect's identity a motive for the attack.
Davison was returning home to Maine after visiting family in Florida before the incident.
