Maryland document thief Landau gets 60 Minutes treatment
Convicted historical document thief Barry Landau got the 60 Minutes treatment this past weekend, including one of their famous ambush interviews. As correspondent Bob Simon explains in the video above, producers had tried repeatedly to arrange proper discussions, which fell apart each time. Simon refers to Landau as a "narcissist."
The piece must have been filmed some time ago - Landau is currently in a medium-security prison in eastern North Carolina. Landau was sentenced in June to seven years for stealing thousands of historic documents worth as much as $2.5 million from archives along the East Coast, including one in Baltimore, where the scheme unraveled last summer.
Maryland U.S. Attorney Rod Rosenstein appears in the 60 Minutes piece, showing off Landau's jacket used to conceal documents. Landau's co-conspirator, Jason Savedoff, is slated to be sentenced next month.
