Police said a 21-year-old man was fatally shot Thursday afternoon in southern Baltimore's Westport neighborhood. Few details were available, but police said they were called to the 2200 block of Annapolis Rd. at about 2:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting. The man was pronounced dead a short time later. He has not been identified pending notification of his next of kin.
The shooting occurred not far from the Lakeland community, where a 24-year-old active duty member of the U.S. Navy was shot and killed Wednesday night.
Police said suspected drugs were found at the scene of the Westport shooting, but they were investigating whether they were connected to the victim.
Five people were shot in Baltimore in less than 24 hours between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. So far this year, 179 people have been killed in the city.
