A man was fatally shot and a woman injured after a Christmas Eve shooting in an East Baltimore housing project.
The shooting occurred at about 11:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of Webb Court, near the Institute of Notre Dame in Latrobe Courts. Police said the male victim was shot multiple times and taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he died, and a woman walked into the hospital with a gunshot wound to her stomach.
At the scene, the male victim's clothing was scattered on an embankment in front of a residence. A pair of jeans was left at the spot where he was loaded into an ambulance. Nearby, children played basketball and concerned residents stuck their heads out of their upstairs windows.
"It's like the wild wild west out here," one man said as he shuffled past the crime scene.
The shooting happened in view of a surveillance camera, and Det. Jeremy Silbert, a police spokesman, said investigators were inspecting the cameras for clues. Anyone with information was asked to call homicide detectives at 410-396-2100.
Police did not say whether detectives had a motive for the shooting. Though the Eastern District saw a decline in homicides last year to 28, this year 37 have been killed there, about the same as the district saw between 2008 and 2010.
