Westminster High School seniors Sadie Allgeier and Christiana Sasser have been selected to receive the President's Volunteer Service Award, according to a news release from Carroll County Public Schools.

The President's Volunteer Service Award program was created by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers make in their communities and to encourage more people to serve.

Allgeier has accumulated over 1,750 community service learning hours from a variety of local and community agencies. She has volunteered at the Carroll Arts Council, the Humane Society, and 4-H among others.

Her work with the Arts Council includes time as an intern and camp counselor. She also fosters kittens for the Humane Society.

For the past three years, Sasser has been an active member of FoolProof, an improvisational theater troupe that teaches children about important issues like bullying and depression.

She and her fellow and her fellow actors also perform skits on drug and alcohol abuse and domestic violence for a local rehabilition facility.

Sasser was also one of six students in Maryland recognized as a Distinguished Finalist in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards — the largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service.

It was created in 1995 by Prudential in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals to honor middle and high school students for outstanding service to others at the local, state, and national levels.
