A 24-year-old Westminster man has been charged with multiple counts of possession and distribution of child pornography, according to a Maryland State Police news release.

Alex R. Tringali was arrested Tuesday after an online investigation into individuals distributing child pornography by members of the Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Tringali, of the 300 block of Nectar Court, has been charged with four counts of distribution of child pornography and 10 counts possession of child pornography, according to police.

He is being held on $55,000 bond at the Carroll County Detention Center, police said.

According to a news release, a trooper with the task force began the investigation several months ago after locating a computer sharing what was believed to be child pornography on a file-sharing network. The trooper was then able to trace the computer activity back to Tringali's home, according to police.

During a search of his home, police said they found digital evidence confirming that he was in possession of child pornography and had been distributing it over the Internet. Additionally, numerous items of digital media, including computers, cameras, CD/DVDs, were seized and turned over to computer forensic examiners for further analysis, police said.

The Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is comprised of police agencies from around the state with the mission to protect children from computer-facilitated sexual exploitation.
