Westminster fire displaces family of three

A house fire in Westminster Monday afternoon caused about $60,000 in damages and has displaced a family of three, according to a notice of investigation from the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

The fire started in the basement of a two-story home in the 3000 block of Sykesville Road around 4:10 p.m. and was discovered by the homeowner.

It took 30 firefighters about 30 minutes to control the fire, according to the fire marshal's office.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and the family is being assisted by family members.

According to the fire marshal's office, damages include $40,000 to the home and $20,000 to possessions in the home.
