Westminster fire displaces three families, causes $250,000 in damage

A fire at a one-story apartment building in Westminster displaced three families and caused about $250,000 in damage Sunday afternoon, according to a notice of investigation from the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

The fire, reported at 2:47 pm, started in the laundry room of an apartment building at 102 Wimert Avenue. The building includes three apartments and a laundry room.

It took 50 firefighters about 40 minutes to control the fire. The cause remains under investigation, and no injuries were reported, according to the notice.

The three families who were living in the building have been given temporary residences across by the Red Cross, according to Deputy Brian Quick of the State Fire Marshal's Office.
