Carroll schools closed Wednesday, power outages reported around county

Carroll County Public Schools will be closed Wednesday due to inclement weather, according to a message on the school system website.

Offices, including Central Office, will be closed.

Carroll County remains under a winter storm warning until 1 p.m. with freezing rain falling throughout the night and expected to continue this morning.

The Carroll County Office of Public Safety has advised residents on its Facebook page that "roads are very slick and there are reports of scattered power outages and trees down throughout the area."

According to the BGE online outage map, 26,346 customers had been without power this morning, but 3,103 have had power restored as of 10:25 a.m.

FIrstEnergy is reporting that 6,828 Carroll customers are without power as of 10:25 a.m.

The Office of Public Safety has also posted more than 40 current road closures in the county on its Facebook page.

This will be the second time this week and sixth time this year Carroll students have had a snow day. Schools were closed Monday due to a snowstorm and opened on a two hour delay Tuesday.

Carroll County government offices will open at 10 a.m.

Carroll Area Transit System (CATS) is closed Wednesday.

McDaniel College, Carroll Community College, and the Mount Airy College Center are also closed.
