A fire at the Westminster Livestock Auction building on Old New Windsor Road early Wednesday morning caused about $300,000 in damages, according to a notice of investigation from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.

The fire, reported at 1:55 a.m., originated in the office of the building and the cause remains under investigation, according to the fire marshal.

There were no injuries reported and the fire was discovered by a passerby.

The fire, which took 40 firefighters about an hour-and-a-half to control, caused $200,000 in damage to the building itself and $100,000 in damages to contents inside, according to the fire marshal.
