Westminster man charged with robbing Exxon gas station

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office arrested a Westminster resident in connection with an armed robbery at the Exxon gas station on Sullivan Road.

The Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Garrett Colby Sutton, 20, in a news release Wednesday afternoon, two days after the robbery.

According to police, Sutton entered the Exxon gas station around 9 p.m. Monday, displayed a knife, and demanded money from the register.

He took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and fled the store on foot in an unknown direction, police said.

Detectives were able to identify Sutton as the suspect after following numerous leads and around 1:15 Wednesday, Sutton was arrested, according to police.

He was transported to Carroll County Central Booking to be processed and presented before a judicial officer who will determine a bail status. He was charged with armed robbery, first degree assault, and theft under $1,000, police said.
